Raeulf jumped when he touched her, 'I'm not cold.' she protested, shivering. 'Oh, yeah look what my boy Sammy got me.' they were in the long narrow coridoor leading toward the dance hall, the heat differance was noticable, yet she was still shivering. She was rooting around in her back pocket for the small packaged sweet the boy had given her. 'Ah here it is.' She pulled it out and held it infront of his face, stopping him still. 'When was the last time you saw one of these...' The war had been hard on food and confectionaries, living in Cologne they were lucky, they had more food resources than most, however Chocolate had run out completely a few years ago and almost everyone had been craving it ever since. The wrapper shined in the dull light and it crinkled as she rolled it around in her fingers. 'Wanna share it with me?' she whispered, an eyebrow raised. Luckily, since her father was rich, she never had need for food, although she was sure that Frou Okter spent all her father's monthy allowance on hideous clothes for herself. 'I'll share it with you if you like.' she was still whispering. Someone was coming down the coridoor, it was narrow and she recognised it was a young man named Benny. 'Sorry.' she said, leaning onto Carl as he squeezed past, it was a tight squeeze. She Leaned into him harder. 'Thanks Rae.' Benny muttered, pushing past her. When he was gone, Raeulf stood back against the other wall, looking down, unwrapping the chocolate painfully slowly. 'You still want some?' She licked it on one end, closing her eyes as the much remembered tasted exploded on her tounge. She then stood with her face about an inch from Carls, on her toes compensating for the height. Raeulf, winked at him, putting the chocolate halfway into her mouth, holding it there with her teeth. Her eyebrow twitched tauntingly, her shivering dying down until she was still.

Watching Rae shiver and shudder made Carl hold her closer to him; looking down to Raeulf rummaging around he relished the vast improvement of heat that was coming from the hall, he couldn’t handle being cold too well. About to walk back in to get the full whack of heat he was stopped by Rae, turning back to see what was worth stopping for, his eyes dilated. He hadn’t seen any chocolate in so long, he wasn’t much of a sweet tooth anyway but at the sight of it, his mouth watered. “Years ago.” Watching the wrapper intently, Carl couldn’t help a smile break through his lips, he felt foolish, like a child being shown the same chocolate. The wrapper’s shine twinkled and reflected in his eyes. “Sure thing.” Hearing the footsteps coming down the corridor Carl looked down to see another young man come their way, Carl went to move sideways to gibe Rae some room to move but was pinned to the wall by Raeulf’s bodyweight. Carl looked away as she leant into him harder.

Watching Raeulf slowly unwrap the chocolate Carl crossed over his right index and middle finger, leaning back against the wall, surely watching a chocolate bar being unwrapped wasn’t supposed to be so flustering. As he watched Raeulf lick the chocolate slowly he exhaled heavily, watching the piece as she placed it between her immaculately white teeth placed his hands on Raeulf’s shoulders and swapped placed with her, looking down to her now against the wall he placed a palm flat against the wall and leant into her. For a moment Carl stood there and stared at Raeulf slowly he went in for the chocolate, catching the end of it with his teeth staid still, their noses touching. Holding Raeulf’s chin ever so lightly with his other hand Carl pulled the chocolate away, just brushing his lips against hers. Standing up at full height Carl looked down to Raeulf with a genuine smile and whispered “Thanks.” And pushed the chocolate piece into his mouth before walking back into the hall a wave of heat cascading over him.

Raeulf took a sharp intake of breath as he moved her along the wall, she watched his arm as it was replaced flat against the wall, when she looked back, his face was bent down to hers. Her eyes flickered from his eyes to his moth and back again. Slowly, ever so slowly, he leant in, Rae tilted her head slightly. He bit down on the chocolate, snapping it in half, her half dropping into her mouth and beginning to melt. His lips kissed hers as he pulled away. Rae leant her head back against the wall, opening her eyes and looking up at him. He had a beautiful, enigmatic, happy smile on his face as he whispered "Thanks" before striding back into the hall. Rae watched him go, bambi-eyed, her tounge curling over the chocolate. She slid down the wall and onto the floor, her knees bending into eachother. The sweet taste melted as she swallowed it all, the taste still warm in her mouth. She looked down to the floor, looking back up to the ceiling with a giant smile on her face. 'I need to get some more chocolate.'

A few minutes later, the hall exploded into applause as the last song ended. Smithe popped his head around the door, spotting Raeulf sitting on the floor, twisting a cigarette through her fingers. 'Oi! Raeulf! Raeulf!!' She looked up after the second calling of her name. 'We're finishing up, if you want to come in and say something, not like you do every night or anything.' Rae blinked at him 'Um... yes...' She pushed herself up off the floor. Smithe looked down at her, shaking his head 'what you smiling for you idiot.' She laughed, walking past him and over to the record player. 'Okay my babies, its time to say goodnight.' the room booed 'Okay calm down calm down! The good news is, tonight was a Fantastic night, despite my embarassing dancing.' Everyone laughed with shouts of 'get out of it' and 'nahh.' She clicked her tounge 'Okay kids, lets get out of this place quickly, I have to clean up and stuff. Go on! Get out of here!' everyone cheered, chattering amongst themselves and exiting equally quickly. Smithe came over, Rae leaned into him 'You see that brunette over there?' the boy nodded 'Dont invite her again, she's here for all the wrong reasons.' Smithe nodded and walked away. Walking over to the side of the room, she beant over to pick something off the floor, keening her legs straigt and folded her waist. Her hair hanging forward. A smile was still playing on her lips as she picked up stray peices of paper.

Walking back into the hall Carl’s heart was racing, he could hardly hear through the blood rushing in his ears. Weaving in and out of younger people Carl leant against a wall near the changing rooms where he had spent the first part of the evening watching over Raeulf. He watched all of the children, adolescents and young adults who could still be in Hitler youth, he had to keep his priorities straight; Raeulf was his main source, he would keep going with her but he had to get other minds as well. Next meeting he would have to mingle and get information from some of the younger more naive members. As the last song came on Carl slipped away for a moment, not wanting to dance with any of the other girls; he almost felt a sense of loyalty towards her. Watching everyone around him dancing and have a good time ;laughing, shouting, all the things he wasn’t allowed to do as a child Carl felt a kind of bitterness towards them like it wasn’t fair that they could sneak out and do this, perhaps Carl didn’t have it in him to go against his father’s wishes as a child. Either way, it gave him more incentive to get the group disbanded.

As the final song came to its last few beats, Carl came out from his hiding spot and joined those in the crowd applauding and cheering violently, the cheering didn’t stop until Raeulf could be seen. As she wished everyone goodnight Carl went to grab his coat, walking over to the dressing room doors he slid inside and picked up the parcel he had wrapped and brought it out with him again. It seemed that these youngsters were good at getting out of a building quickly, it was again something he would have to note and send off later. His shoes once again clicked against the wooden floor as he walked across the hall to Raeulf. “I wouldn’t be very good company to walk you here but not walk you home, Miss Rae.” He held out the parcel “Forgetting something?”

Raeulf twisted her head around, still bent over in a kind of subconcious pin-up girl look. She dressed far more prevocatively than any of the other girls, she took her inspiration from America, the land of her inheritance. Swing youth was basically a rebellion against the German culture. All the kids knew about international dances and music and fashion, however they knew absolutely nothing about the youth resistance.

Raeulf had been there, she had experienced it. As a minor irritation to Nazi's she couldn't understand why they wanted rid of them so much. Perhaps it was the numbers, perhaps it was the lack of love for the country. Smithe was the one other person who knew things like this, however Smithe was a rock, talking to him outside the dances was almost impossible. He hardly ever left the house, when he did he was on his own or with Rae. Whenever somebody questioned him he would have anxiety attacks and would therefore not be able to say anything. This saved him from the threat of giving too much information. Rae herself however had another barrier, she was a really really good liar. Her father used to hate it, how she could make him believe anything. She was also expert at worming her way out of situations where men were involved, another thing that her father hated. 'You're just like your mother!' he used to shout, throwing things across the room in irritance.

Raeulf suddenly got dizzy from the position she was in, topping over onto her bum on the floor. She laughed loudly, the sound echoing around the now empty hall. She wiped the tears from her eyes, grabbing onto carl and pulling herself up. 'How gentlemanly of you pretty boy. I might have to take you up on that.' Her eyes glistened at the re-introduction of the package. She loved presants, relished them, from the days when she was little, her daddy came home from garden flowers for her. "Forgetting something?" Raeulf clapped her hands exitedly, jumping up and down like a child 'Oh oh what is it!?' she took it from him gently and brought it to her ear, shaking it delicately 'okay so its not frozen peas...' she put it up to the light 'Its not a dead rat is it...?'

Carl laughed to Raeulf as she shook the package “No, it isn’t a dead rat, and you won’t be able to see through the paper, its good stuff, so come on, get your things and I’ll walk you home, open it later.” Carl always seemed to have a certain authority to his voice, and a certain charm to his demeanour. Waiting for Rae to collect her things and say goodnight to Smithe Carl leant on the wall closest to the door. Nodding to Smithe as they left down the alley Carl buttoned up his large overcoat and linked arms with Raeulf “So when should we start those dancing lessons Miss?” His hard soled shoes echoing into the silent streets. Looking up to the sky, through the thin whisps of cloud he could make out a few stars. Carl was silent most of the way back, he was deep in thought. Carl knew that there was absolutely no way he could tell her who he was, but it seemed a shame that such a pretty girl was going to get hurt in the process, shrugging off the idea he thought to himself All in the name of the Fatherland.
Reaching Raeulf’s adopted home; he stood before her, nodding to the package “Hope that is alright by the way.” Tough if it isn’t, that cripple will be gone by tomorrow’s sunset. “And I look forward to seeing you again Miss Rae.”

Raeulf couldn't wait to open the package. 'Hows about tuesday? The sooner the better i think...' she stopped to think for a moment 'You said you did classical right? did you do tap by any chance?' she didnt think he looked like a tap dancer, then again he didnt look like any type of dancer. Although dropping out of school, she wasnt stupid. She knew that there was something wrong about Carl, she knew that he was too... rehearsed in eveything he said. So far, she had only seen him for what he really was with the chocolate. She coughed as he said goodbye. 'Sorry aren't you forgetting something?' she turned her face and tapped her cheek, turning her head at the very last moment, their lips touching. She pulled back, winking at him slyly before opening the door and walking in. She leant against the door, peeling the tape off of the package carefully, unwrapping the paper. Her eye lit up as the jumpsuit dropped out, she actually squealed with delight, dropping it onto the floor, yanking the door open and running in her heels to catch up with Carl, she jumped onto his back, wrapping her legs around his waist and her arms tightly around his neck. 'Thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou!' she shouted hurridly and excitedly kissing him on the head and on the cheek between every thank. Finally she kissed him on the back of the head, ruffled his hair and jumped off, skipping back to the house.

Monday came, she had met up that day with Smithe to talk about Benny, the young boy that passed her at the last dance, he'd been struggling with his parents and had to leave early every night. She told him to find Carl, to tell him to meet her in the old warehoude on Dussel street ay mid-day.

Tuesday soon came, and she was all ready for her lesson. She taught the younger members of the swing youth when they joined, but had never taught a peer before. Eating a sandwich on the way, she tied her hair into a kerchief and brought a shorter skirt for dancing in, also a pair of her tap shoes. She opened the door to the ond warehouse and walked in, dumping her bag and beginning to strech. She was unbelievably flexible, even with a sandwich in her mouth.

Seeing Raeulf tap her cheek, he couldn’t see the harm in a kiss; after all they were close earlier in the evening. Leaning into her cheek, Carl’s eyes bolted wide open as he saw her turn to face him properly; the kiss was brief as Carl pulled away sharply. “Goodnight Miss Rae.” Turning around he started to make his way towards the winding maze that cologne called its back alleys, hearing the click of heels he turned around only to be leapt upon. Laughing, a little shocked and a little winded he stood there, trying to keep his balance for both their sakes. “It was nothing, really it was nothing.” As she skipped away Carl made sure she got inside again before making his way home. He didn’t bother changing; instead Carl threw himself onto the bed and slept amongst the papers and files.
Waking on Monday morning, Carl decided not to see Raeulf, it would look odd if he spent all his time with her, besides he had to catch up with the rest of his work and go to the post office. Mailing a large pack of letters and several phone calls later Carl decided to take a walk around the cathedral square where he bumped into Smithe, nodding to him Carl replied “Thanks, hey you and me should chat some time.”
Tuesday came round quick enough, the Kniff’s show had been boarded up and Carl walked into the studio, leaning against the doorframe and watched Rae stretch. “Hello Miss.”

Rae jumped at the sound of his voice, getting up quickly. 'Hello stranger, dump your bag and get here.' She wasn't in the mood for messing today, she was in the mood for dancing. Her tap shoes strapped on, she clicked across the concrete floor to him, grabbing his hand and pulling him to the center of the room. 'Okay then, starting open position.' she looked at him, letting go of his hand to walk around him. 'Okay first thing your head is pulled too far back, that's a ballroom pose, this isn't any fancy ballroom.' she tilted his chin down slightly, before walking around again. 'Your arms are too high, they should always be a comfortable height for your partner, and as today I am your partner, they are too high.' She pushed his chest in slightly and then dropped to her knees, inspecting his stance.' She knelt up to his hip height and grabbed onto them 'Okay, you're too tight again, you need to put you weight on this leg and cock your hip.' She pressed her hand flat against his stomach, which was co-incidentally, was rock hard. 'Oh...okay, um...' she coughed 'You're inner core strength is fantastic for this posture, however, we dont want inner core strength, it has to be, uhh... loose. Its all about the hips really in these kind of dances.' She got up again, standing back a little. 'Alright you're looking alright from the front...' She moved around to the back and laughed, slapping his ass. 'Tuck it in! You look like a bloody duck! Put your shoulders down man! You're so tense all the time.' She placed her hands over his shoulers, grabbing them tightly 'Wow... I can see why you're so bloody stiff...' She started rolling his shoulders, massaging them expertly. 'You've gotta loosen up a little pretty boy... scrap that, you've gotta loosen up a lot.'

Being dragged into the center of the room he looked around, at least it was a lesson to fit in, he had never been into one of these new dance studios before with their mirrors and ballet bars, only the old fashioned ballrooms where he had practiced before. As she slapped his ass Carl broke out of the ‘stance’ and turned to her “Uhh..what!?!” He didn’t like that. As Raeulf started on his shoulders he tensed up further at her touch; though it seemed like she had done this before. Closing his eyes for a moment, Carl’s shoulders relaxed and dropped as he let out a slow breath. He had to keep on track, but it was difficult to break away from her touch. Pulling his eyes open, Carl turned back around to Face Raeulf. “Well...hmm...Should you not try to teach me? It seems I am going to be a difficulty pupil at best.” Laughing softly to himself Carl realized that he did feel allot less tense; though he still kept his straight-laced demeanor, he looked less in pain and more relaxed. Taking Raeulf’s hand he pulled her closer and spun her around. “Come on then twinkle toes, show Mr. Uptight how to dance!”

Raeulf muttered under her breath before rolling her eyes at him. 'How can I teach you how to dance if you dont even know where you're going wrong?' she sighed 'okay, well rule number one, its all about the hips.' she jutted her formentioned hips into his and carried on 'now you've loosened up a bit it should be easier, what you're doing is, when you're on a chassey and a step ball change, your leg is far to straight, and your hip needs popping a little. All you really need, is to relax, and believe that you're better than me.' She pulled herself away from him, running over to the grammarphone and placing the needle on the disk. She ran over to him again, resuming the position. 'one two three.' the music started and she set off around the room 'lead me!' shouted, feeling him slipping away. Finally she slipped her hand from his, she started tapping her feet in an intricate pattern, she ended with one, holding a hand out to him as an invitation for him to copy and expand.

Carl was determined to get this today; he had to fit in properly, be one of the best to fully gain the group’s trust, especially Raeulf. He wasn’t sure, but guessed she was unsure of him, he had to make her feel totally comfortable with him and if learning the dance properly would be a great start. He rolled back his shoulders and took her hand, he had to remain positive, and he was going to get this whether he liked it or not. As the music set off he felt pulled by Raeulf as they flew around the room, as she shouted at him Carl stayed stone faced, he tried concentrating, but when he concentrated it seemed he got left behind. As she slipped away Carl clenched one of his fists, a little frustrated that he wasn’t getting it straight away, watching her feet intently, Carl copied her patter to exactly, though his expansion to it was a little rigid. Stepping towards Rae, Carl had a small pulse of confidence and took her by the hand, he tried his hand at actually leading her around the room; thinking he was better than she was.

Rae laughed as he expanded, following what he did before getting swept from the spot, she smiled as he seemed to get the hang of it. She looked up to his face, his serious expression, slightly more lightened than usual, but nevertheless, serious. She laughed, throwing her head back 'Smile you git!' She hit him playfully on the chest. 'Enjoy it!' she whispered, her breath escaping her as she went back into a few high kicks. She laughed 'I love this song. But you'd better keep up if you fancy coming to the next meeting.' She picked up the pace a little. 'Whats up pretty boy, can't keep up with a little girly like me huh?' she laughed loudly spinning inscesantly until she was on the other side of the hall. 'How come you're so far away?' she stopped grinning for a second, for only a moment however until a smile spread across her mouth like wildfire. 'Catch me!' she shouted, backing up until she was against the wall, winking at him before running at full speed toward him, leaping toward him as she was just a meter away from him, praying to god that she wouldnt fall flat on her face.

Carl smiled a little at her quirky comments; she did look graceful in her movements even if he didn’t believe the dance was graceful at all. Watching Raeulf run up at him at full speed, for a split second he froze, unsure of that to do, but as he put his hands out to her waist they connected. Lifting her up over his head Carl was surprised how light Rae was, she was like a feather. Setting her down on the ground, listening to her tap shoes clink on the floor Carl didn’t know what to do. He wanted to smile and thank her somehow but he didn’t know what to do. Stepping back from her Carl straightened out his shirt “So, how did I do?”

She took a sudden breath in as he raised her into the air. He supported her weight effortlessly, his hands cupped over her hip-bones. As he lowered her back down to the floor, she watched his face, he looked like he wanted to say something, instead saying “So, how did I do?” she averted her gaze down to his feet, her face flushed 'you're...uh... pretty strong pretty boy...' she laughed softly. 'You did... pretty good...' she flitted her eyes up to him, 'so...' she whispered, suddenly feeling small.

Carl watched Rae intently and smiled subtly, he noticed her eyes were focusing away from him and towards the floor. He put a hand out for a split second, as if to lift her chin ever so gently but pulled back as her eyes flitted up to his. Smiling again as she whispered almost to himself he turned around and walked to the door where he put on his coat and gestured towards Raeulf. “Come on, lunch. I’m buying.” Walking out, not waiting for her reply Carl leant against the brick wall and went to pull out a cigarette but the packet in his coat pocket was empty. “Damn.” He sighed “Need to get some more...”

Raeulf paused a moment, not following his lead. Athough seeming intellegant enough, Carl cirtaintly wasn't perceptive. She shook her head, walking over to her bag, unzipping it and pulling out a blue nylon skirt-suit. She slipped off what she was wearing onto the floor. The dance studio was cold in only her underwear, she jogged up and down, rubbing her hands up and down her arms simultaneously. She bent down to the floor, pulling on the knee-length skirt, picking up the white shirt and pulling it over her head, she then buttoned up the jacket and swung the brown leather bag over her shoulder and walking out, right past Carl 'cigarette?' she asked, pulling one out of her pocket.

Rae always had cigarettes on her person, hidden in the band of her hold-ups, under the soles of her shoes. If she got caught with them however, they were for her fiancee, Smithe. Their plan was tight, whenever they got questioned, they were both allies to eachother. Where were you last night? With Smithe. Where are you going? To Raeulf's.

They walked through town, girls turning to glare at her and stare at him. 'I'm not all that hungry, just thirsty is all. I just need a drink. I have things to do anyway...' she trailed off, thinking of things that she needed to do. Suddenly, a girl walked into her, smashing their shoulder's together. Raeuly snapped around 'Oi! Oi you! Do you MIND!?' to her surprise, the girl kept on walking. Rae threw her hand up in the air with exhasperation, noticing a small black book on the floor. She picked it up off the floor and flicked through it, recognising it instantly when she saw the handwriting. Two days, normal time, the warehouse under the bridge. Rae smiled, she always loved it when she found out the date and time of the gatherings before anyone else did. She looked up to Carl, pocketing the book. 'So. Where's this drink then pretty boy?'

Walking back to her house, she smiled broadly. 'you're getting better pretty boy, but i'll have to teach you more than once... maybe more than fifty times...' she muttered under her breath sarcastically. Approaching her door, she saw Smithe hammering madly on the door. 'Hay Hay! What's up chicken?' she was grinning broadly. He turned around, his eyes were red, as if he'd been crying 'where've you been! I've been looking for you everywhere are you serious! Why are you still with him!' Rae scowled at her 'Smithe! Seriously calm down!' Smithe threw his bag to the floor angrily, making Raeulf jump. 'No I will Not calm down! Kniff's Dead!' Raeulf stopped. 'No...no you're lying, what kind of a sick joke is that!' she screamed lashing away from Carl and over to Smithe, who grabbed her by each arm, shaking her 'He's Dead Heinricke! They'd found him... they'd found him...' he trailed off as she began to cry, hugging her, but that's not what she wanted, she hit him on the chest repeatedly, her letting him go. 'Get off me!' she screamed horrifically, 'leave me alone!' She fumbled with her key in the lock, finally ripping the door open and slamming it behind her.

National Socalists - Page 3 Empty Re: National Socalists

Carl raised an eyebrow. “Dead?” he assumed that the young man had been taken away, perhaps prison, but killed? It didn’t really bother him, but the somewhat horrified expression slapped upon the rebellion’s faces did. He wasn’t going to say anything for now, he didn’t care for the crippled man and anything he did say would definitely convey his complete lack of sympathy or interest. Watching Raeulf slam the door he looked over to Smithe and walked up to the dark green door and knocked loudly, he knew Raeulf wouldn’t answer but still, perhaps Frou Okter would open the door to him. “Frou Okter! Frou, Frou Okter!” Slamming his fist against the door Carl stormed off down the street and Ignored Smithe. He needed a drink, but it was far too early for whisky or port. Walking back to his apartment Carl slammed his door with equal strength and threw him onto the dirty bed, surrounding himself in paper work; perhaps he had been too harsh and upfront. He now wondered if killing of Kniff would have worse consequences than he first anticipated. Perhaps Raeulf would become some sort of recluse and the youth swings club thing would end, a good prospect, but not as satisfying and he would have hoped for.

He lay amongst the paperwork and surveillance photos and sighed heavily, looked up to the peeling paint off of the damp ceiling, he was thinking too much about this. Sliding off of the bed and onto the wooden floor Carl ran himself a bath and looked at himself in the mirror again, his bruises were fading, and his cuts were healing. Carl spent the afternoon in his apartment after his bath lounging around, making phone calls and such the like. Looking out of his window the sun was setting and his thoughts went back to Raeulf. He did feel sorry for her; he didn’t like seeing her upset. Walking the long roads back to her house, the streets were filled with a smoky haze; looking to the dark green door he knocked on it again. He looked to the stout woman and asked roughly “Is Miss Heinricke at home.” The woman shook her head; Carl asked no more and left the doorstep, bowing slightly. Walking back to his apartment Carl picked up a fistful of files and threw them at the wall.

The next day Carl didn’t leave his apartment, he organized his files and sent off more reports about some of the younger children who could possibly be forced to Hitler youth, he would let other officers deal with that, he had heard nothing of the next dance and began t worry that he had messed up and that would be the end of his work in cologne and he would be sent back to the frontline. However, he had met up with Smithe and he informed Eric of the next dance.

A day later Carl was ready for the dance, he hadn’t heard from Raeulf for two days and hoped that she would be there, so he could talk to her; perhaps comfort her a little too. Opening the door to the dance hall Carl looked around the dancing teens but there was no sign of Raeulf. Catching up with Smithe he grabbed the young boy by the shoulder and spun him around. “No sign of Raeulf tonight?”

Smithe jumped at the harsh grasp to his shoulder "No sign of Raeulf tonight?" he looked down to the floor, shuffling his feet. He coughed, clearing his throat. 'She's uh... Ill...' He was still looking down, not wanting to betray his best friend's trust. 'Look. If you want to find out where she really is, go to her house, but I didnt tell you that.' He wormed his way from the Aryan's grasp and walked off into the crowds.

Raeulf got out of the house just as night fell. It was already dark, and cold, but she needed to clear her head. She had a knee-length black coat on to keep her warm. She didn't really know where she was going, her head still in a daze from hearing the news. Kniff was like a brother to her, and older brother. He looked after her, even if he couldn't protect her. He was always around, even when she was born. Her father had been almost best friends with his, Kniff had been born about five years previous to her, and was always around. When he went to war she was crushed, however when the knews came that he'd lost his leg, she'd almost died inside. He was always an active, happy person, now... Rae walked through puddles as it started raining. The street lamps flickered, bringing the cobbled lanes from pitch black, to hazy light, and pitch black again. He blocked everything out, light, the cold, noise, probably why she didn't hear him coming.

Rae was asleep now, the door closed, the covers over her bare shoulders. Frou Okter was pottering around downstairs with hot towels and bowls of water, washing cloths in the basin. However she dropped everything when the reserved knock came at the door. She dried off her hands on the front of her apron and unchained the door, a suspicious look on seeing whom it was. 'What you want.' she asked, her arms folded across her chest.

Carl looked the stout woman, he wanted to see Raeulf but from the look on the small woman’s face, something was wrong or he just wasn’t wanted. “What is wrong with Miss Raeulf, I must see her, please Miss Okter...” He looked to the woman, a glint of sadness in his Aryan blue eyes. He took a step closer to the doorway.

'You see Girl. She upstairs. Follow.' The woman turned, leaving the door open and making her way up the stairs, on the tiny landing she turned, opening Raeulf's door to her small bedroom. The light flooded in and the sleeping girl shuffled slightly. Frou Okter pushed the young man in, shutting the door behind him. Rae had her back to the door, her shoulders bare as was the top of her back. Her arms were over the sheets, her body underneath. Her curtains open, the moonlight pouring over her pale skin and her red hair. Slowly, she rolled over, her face and upper body hitting the dim light. Her face was a shock to say the least, her eye almost black, her lip was bleeding, her pillow stained red. Her torso was wrapped tightly with bandaging, stained in places. Most shocking however, was the bleeding knife gash, running along her jaw, down past under her ear and down her neck. Blood was crusted around it, new blood beading up on the skin. Rae however looked peaceful, her breath gentle her hand on the pillow next to her and her hair pulled back, some strands falling across her face lightly. The door opened slightly, the old woman leaning her head against the doorframe. 'She tell me nothing. Maybe you learn from her.' she shut the door again, leaving the room into silence once again.

Stepping into the house in from the rain, Carl quietly closed the door behind him and followed the stout woman up the stairs quietly. He saw the sleeping girl and felt that odd feeling in his stomach again. The flush that came over his pale skin faded as he saw what had happened to Raeulf. He leant over her, breathing gently, he could hardly believe what he was seeing, Carl felt a wave of pure rage crash over him, clenching his fists Carl jumped as the door opened a crack and he heard the stout woman whisper in. Nodding he turned back to Raeulf. He felt a pricking heat in his eyes, his vision blurred. Fighting back what he thought were tears Carl sat at the foot of her bed and gently took her hand. “I’ll kill whoever did this to you.” He whispered softly.

Rae shuffled slightly, she could have sworn that she'd heard something. Her hand suddenly getting very cold, she opened her eyes they were blurry at first, she had to blink a few times before she saw what it was making all the noise. 'Thanks for waking me pretty boy... its not like I need to sleep or anything.' She half-smiled, pushing herself up with a pained expression. Her ribs hurt, her face hurt, everything hurt. She leant against the wall, her covers dropping to her waist, her tightly wrapped torso in stained bandages. She looked down at them sighing slightly before looked up to Carl's face, instantly becoming concerned to see tears in his eyes. 'Hay hay... what's wrong... its okay... why aren't you at the dance... is sonthing bothering you?' she stroked the back of his hand with her thumb, looking up at him, her brow furroed from the worry. She coughed violently, her body covulsing and shaking with each cough. She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand 'sorry.' she excused, sitting back up painfully again.

Keeping a slightly stern expression Carl looked down towards Raeulf and wanted to squeeze her hand tighter, hold her in his arms but she looked so frail; he was scared of breaking her especially in her weakened state. “Oh..Sorry...Raeulf.” He contemplated leaving her to sleep but he wanted to know who had hurt her, he assumed it was that Hansel boy again. Blinking away the tears Carl ran a finger along her palm slowly. “I couldn’t dance without you, I’d just go stiff, remember?” He laughed softly, not really in the mood for laughing. His eyes widened as she coughed violently. As Rae sat up further Carl edged up the bed a little by her side and ran one hand through her hair softly “ What happened Miss Rae, who did this to you?”

“What happened Miss Rae, who did this to you?” Raeulf straightened up slightly laughing to mask her lies. 'What, this?' she said, motioning to her face. 'I fell down some concrete stairs... silly of me really.' she had another coughing fit, straightening up. 'And now ontop of all that i've got a cold.' she gave a forced, half-hearted smile, ripping open a healing part of the slash across her face, it opening to bleed again. Raeulf's eyes blistered from the pain, tears welling up. She turned away bringing a hand over her mouth to try and hide the fact she was crying. 'I'm sorry.' she said in a broken whimper 'I dont even know you and ...Its just ... It hurts so much...' She couldn't hide the tears now, as much as she tried. Her shoulders were haunched over, shaking from the sobs. She looked down to Carl's hand on hers, his other hand in her limp hair. 'I'm so stupid. I don't deserve any of your sympathy, I don't deserve anything...' her voice subsided into tears again. She didn't know what to do, she'd been hurt to the point where she couldnt see, and she found it hard to breathe. She wanted her mother back, but even marrying Hitler couldn't bring her back. She was cold, and frightened, but in her mind she wanted to stay strong, for her children. She lay back down on her pillow, bringing his hand to her face, holding it against her cheek. 'Don't leave me...' she whispered.
