Alexander Francis Granville
The Earl of Rochester

❝ quiet● intelligent ● adventurous ● passionate ● hot - tempered❞

Alexander listened to Antonia’s playing, he was envious of her, and envious of the life she was given. It took Alexander decades to learn the piano properly, he was born a street urchin, not knowing how to read or write for most of his life and she had all of these opportunities given to her without so much as a seconds thought. 'Although I'm sure London is so bloody exiting and that all your wonderful friends would make you quite as easily forget about some whore from the country' Alexander looked up to Antonia a little shocked, if not very confused.

He didn’t understand what had just happened, he didn’t stand up to follow her, his experience with women assumed she would be back or she wanted to be on her own and him going out would only aggravate the situation more. Needless to say she returned, Alexander stood, he understood why she had gotten angry, but wasn’t used to a woman speaking to him like that, earl or otherwise. 'I apologize Mr. Granville. I fear I have been more exposed tonight than ever. I apologize.... perhaps... perhaps I should be leaving...' Alexander walked over to Antonia placing a hand on her forearm.

“Come now, enough foolishness Miss Curnrow.” He guided her back into the room, sitting her down beside him. “What I have told you does concern you.” He playfully smiled. “I had planned on inviting you to join me to visit London as I was not sure if you have been before during the theatrical season! Of course...” He paused. “It is entirely up to you, well... and your father but as long as you do not mind spending a few days with my wonderful friends.” Alexander laughed and stood, full of energy from the night before. “You don’t have to make a decision now, think it over and let me now in the next few days.” He offered Antonia a hand to standing.

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

Antonia was just turning to leave when his cold hand touched her arm, she didn't flinch, now becoming accustomed to his lack of heat. “Come now, enough foolishness Miss Curnrow.” he moved her back in the room, she would have been better off to go home she though, embaressing herself enough for one day. “What I have told you does concern you.” Antonia turned her head sharply, her ears pinned back and giving him her full attention. He had a playful smile lingering on his lips that sent a chill down her spine. “I had planned on inviting you to join me to visit London as I was not sure if you have been before during the theatrical season! Of course...”
he paused and she hung on his every breath “It is entirely up to you, well... and your father but as long as you do not mind spending a few days with my wonderful friends.” a smile began to grow slowly on her face, he stood, seemingly oblivious to this and carried on, “You don’t have to make a decision now, think it over and let me now in the next few days.” Antonia, ignoring the hand he had offered, let out of her seat with newfound vigor. 'I shall tarry home at once, and I shall demand of my father that I go, of course both my mother and father will be completely against the idea, but I will join you anyway!' she sounded out of her mind, in a complete frenzy of words and exitement, all of a sudden she stopped, turning to Alexander 'I havn't been to London before, Alexander' before she could finish her sentace she had her arms wrapped around his neck and her lips pressed up against his. She pulled away laughing, turning and running out of the room, looking back at him through the door playfully.

Alexander Francis Granville
The Earl of Rochester

“Zounds and damn.” Alexander sighed as Antonia left to inform her father of their impending trip to London, he hadn’t meant for her really to go. He just wanted her to be quiet. Hearing the main door being closed he fell back into a chair with an exaggerated sigh a hand against the side of his face. “What to do, what to do...” He mumbled, he hadn’t really thought about if she said yes, assuming her mother would have enough control to prohibit it. Alexander was unsure what to do, he sent a maid to summon William down to him.

“You did what?” William laughed, “You invited a human with you to London?” Alexander sighed again. “I know.” He paused, “What I need is your advice... she would most likely be the first human they have had a company in decades...” William laughed harder. “Oh, this is delicious, you have to let her go, this is too delightful to miss!” Alexander scowled. “I’m taking her.” William was hushed. “Yes, you heard me. Times are moving on, elders or not, friends or not... they have to learn to socialise with the humans, it is not like the city of Hūaeƙ anymore; where we were all separate. No, they shall have to learn.” William rolled his eyes. “Alex, please be more reasonable...” He sat by the Earl. “These, are elders you are dealing with, my friends, your friends, why taunt them so? They quadruple you in age and power- at least!” But Alexander was having none of this, waving William away Alexander left to his study to write Antonia a letter.

Antonia,

If you are still interested in accompany me to London I would be delighted to inform you that I am travelling by train on the following Tuesday from Rochester station. I will meet you on the platform at Eleven ‘O’ Clock, the train will depart at quarter past the hour.
Yours,

Alexander Granville.

He put down the pen and set to getting ready.
Tuesday came faster than he had expected suitcase in hand he waited for William, the train and Antonia, his eye cautiously flicking from the platform to his pocket watch. Alexander was dressed well, for the first time in a while he had endeavoured to seek out the most up to date fashions from London and America, his hair back neatly, no hair was out of place. His grey eyes sought out William who had found himself a young boy to carry his case to the platform for two pennies.

LIFE IS NEVER EASY FOR THOSE WHO DREAM
there is no cure for curiosity

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

'ANTONIA! ANTONIAAAA!' The nineteen year old girl groaned and rolled over in her bed. It was far too early in the day to be woken up by the screeching of her mother. 'Antonia!' before she knew it however, she was in the room, slapping her lazy daughter around the back of the head. 'Oww! Mother! That's frankly...' 'What is the meaning of this!?' Antonia's heart seemed to stop, she hadn't told her family about the proposed trip to London yet. She recognised the handwriting instantly. 'Give me that!' she exclaimed, snatching the letter from her mother and looking at it, it had been opened already, she climbed out of her bed to standing it, browsing the letter briefly before turning to her mother in an angered panic. 'What do you think gives you the right to read mail addressed to me?' Antonia's short mother was red in the face, stray hairs falling over her face and her fists clenched. 'How dare you! What do you think you're doing? Its a good job I did decide to read your mail or so to have prevented you from making a disastrous mistake.' Antonia glared at her mother, walking over to her, towering over her. A flicker of fear came past her mother's eyes, she looked terribly like her brother Josiah when she was angry. 'You cannot stop me.' Just at that moment, a shadow darkened the doorway. 'What's going on?' Antonia turned to the sound of Oliver's voice. 'You sent for him? You underhanded...!' Antonia raised a hand to her mother, her tone now becoming more than unruly. 'ANTONIA!' The sudden shock of Oliver's raised voice caused her to stop and look at him. He brashly walked over, stepping in front of his mother and grabbing his younger sister's wrist tightly. 'You are not going. Do you hear me?' she looked up to him, her face thunderous. Oliver gripped her harder and she yelped 'Do you hear me?' she wrenched her arm away from him 'Yes.' she hissed, rubbing at her wrist.

The night was deathly silent, nothing could be heard but the heartbeat of the young girl as she walked around her room in the dark. She held a candle up as she walked. Antonia knew full well that Oliver was leaning against her door, waiting for her to try and escape. There was no way she could get out from there. Having a large leather saddlebag strapped around her, she slid open the window, the freezing night air flooding in to the room. She shivered, looking out into the night. She didn't regret deciding to clothe herself in the stable boys trousers, boots and shirt that she had stolen from the tack room the night before, however cold she was, it would have been impossible to climb down the roses in a dress and corset. She finally reached the ground, her hands covered in blood from the thorns and her shirt torn. She didn't realise however, instead rubbing her cheek, smearng blood along the side of it. She smiled to herself, thinking about how clever she had been. She wasn't out of the woods yet.

The stables were unearthly quiet, when she approached the Gelding however, his braying shocked her. She soon quietened him, only now working faster as to not be discovered. She tacked him up and mounted him, clipping on her deathly black cloak and riding off into the night. As she was clearing the house perimeter, she heard a shout from behind her, looking back, she saw the lights flood her house and the alarm sounding, but it was too late, she was already gone.

She arrived at the meeting-place a little early, she decided to change seeming as no-one was about yet. She tethered the gelding to a rung and began taking her clothes off, she changed quite rapidly, looking in her hand-mirror to do up her hair and fix the blood from her face. No sooner had she dressed than a cough came from behind her, she turned to see him there. 'Evening Miss Curnrow. I apologise for being late.' 'Henry, thank you for doing this.' He said nothing, looking above her head and off into the distance with a stony expression. 'Don't be like this Henry.' silence for a moment. 'Henr...' 'Where would you like me to take him?' she sighed. 'Back to the Earl's stable's.' He nodded, going to untie her horse from the rung. She reached a hand out to him, touching his arm. 'Thank You.'

She was going to be late, she could just tell, she ran down the platform, people crowding it overly, there was no way she could see him. The man on the platform called for the train to depart, in her panic, she jumped on. The train started rolling. She had no tickets and no idea what to do. Suddenly a hand came over her shoulder. 'Ticket miss?' she turned, looking up to the brutish looking man, terrified, she ducked underneath him and began to move quickly through the people. 'Hay! Stop! Stop that girl!' her breath soon escaped from her as she ran faster, irritating a fair few people along the way. Soon the corridors became thinner as she reached the private carriages. The man was reaching out for her now, nearly touching her. Suddenly she crashed into someone. 'ZOUNDS!' She shouted until she looked up to him. 'Oh OH WILLIAM! AHAHAHA! AHA! I am with him! SEE! I do have a ticket!' she turned from gloating the man to looking at William 'give the man my ticket William!' he had a dreadful look of amusement on his face. 'What will you give me for it Miss Curnrow.' she looked at him, shocked and desperate. 'I...I...' William shrugged. 'I have never seen this woman in my life officer, please take her away.' the officer grinned, laying a hand over her small shoulder. 'Wha... William! Let me go you brute! William!' the officer chucked 'You heard the man, he's never seen you before in his life.'

Alexander and William stood at the platform for a while longer and watched the train roll in. “Perhaps he was smart enough not to come?” William grinned, Alexander clipping him around the ear. “Hush, don’t you think I know it was risky?” There was little more said, the sun was making both of them a little flustered and Alexander’s spirits has been dampened. Boarding the train early, being guided to his private carriage Alexander sat by the window looking out over the rolling countryside he shrugged, after not really wanting Antonia to go to looking forward it to her not showing up was tiring. Perhaps London would take his mind off of the countryside.

The last call was made to board the train and they began on their way to London, the quiet murmur of the lower classes could be heard as the tickets were being collected, Alexander had three in his hand. Placing one in his pocket Alexander un-buttoned his coat and leant back, it was going to be an hour or two at least.

It had only been a few minutes when shouts grew louder, William revelling in the thought of chaos, Alexander ignored the commotion, keeping his focus to the speeding landscape, that is until he heard Antonia’s voice, he was sure of it. Standing frantically Alexander threw open the carriage door, propelling himself into the corridor where he saw Antonia being pulled back out of the upper class carriage. “Stop!” He called out to the officer, his unbuttoned coat revealed his fitted black waistcoat with golden gilded buttons and gold chain to his pocket assuming a pocket watch, he looked his position today, his hair pinned back with the finest sapphire blue ribbon, a sapphire pin securing his cravat . “Officer, that woman is with me.” The officer confused pointed to William. “Ignore him, he revels in chaos.” He held out the ticket to the Officer who looked a little embarrassed, taking the ticket he let go on Antonia, “Sorry Miss, my apologies my lord.” Alexander nodded, guiding Antonia back towards the carriage. Closing the door he looked to William through the glass go for a walk... William shrugged and left, covering the glass he turned to Antonia. “What happened?” He couldn’t help but laugh a little “I am really sorry about before, I assure you I will let someone know in the station in London...” He leant towards her as if to take her hand in reassurance but hesitated.

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

Antonia's attention turned from trying to wriggle away from the officer to the familiar voice. 'Alexander!' she gasped happily. She pulled herself away from the man, glaring at him. 'I should think so too!' she exclaimed at the man, brushing herself down snobbily. She walked into the carriage, the door being shut behind her. Now the exitememnt had dies down, she took the time to look out the window. The countryside flying right past her eyes was thrilling, she fel like she was flying. “What happened?” Antonia turned to him. 'Hmm? Oh, well, I arrived late, a bit of exitement back at my house you see...' her eyes sparkled thinking about it. 'And so when I arrived I couldn't find you. That... that officer ran after me when i pulled away because i had no ticket, I saw William... ohhh William... blast him... but yes, he was rather rough, I think I may have attained some bruises from the brute.' she looked about her arm asif to find some. “I am really sorry about before, I assure you I will let someone know in the station in London...” she looked to him, he leaned into her, but paused, as if he were hesitant. She looked at him for a moment, unaware of the blood that was still smeared on her neck. 'Well, don't you look handsome!' she exclaimed nervously, leaning back from him. 'I however am terribly under-packed and under-dressed. I must buy some things in London before I think about going anywhere important.' she smiled, thinking about the money she had stolen from the house before she escaped.
She was glad she came, but couldn't help but think of the uproar at home. It was true shewas outrageous. Running off with a young un-married earl to London, without permission from her family, and stealing money too! Oliver would be absolutely livid.

Meanwhile back at the house 'I'M GOING TO MURDER HER! RIP HER HEART OUT THROUGH HER THROAT!' 'Oliver, please calm down.'

Alexander Francis Granville
The Earl of Rochester

Alexander smiled softly “Don’t worry, I will take you to buy some new dresses before we meet my friends, we are not expected until tomorrow evening.” He sat back opposite Antonia not really concerned with the consequences of encouraging Antonia to join him, if all else failed he would simply take off, never again seen by the people of Rochester. But it would affect Antonia which he didn’t like one bit. He thought back to his family on the outskirts of London when he used to slip out at night, or at least try.

“And where d’you think you’re going at this hour?” Alexander half hanging out of the window, a torn cotton jacket slung over one shoulder. “Nowhere ma, just stretchin as all.” He smiled cheekily, he knew he was going to get the belt; but he liked to make him mother laugh all the same.

It hurt Alexander to think he didn’t really have a chance to say goodbye to his family, once he was pronounced dead he couldn’t be seen anywhere near them. Now over a century on he wondered where his descendants were, if would recognise any of their features, whether if they were told stories of him. Alexander was being to fanciful for his own liking, he found it best not to dwell on the past, there were too many things that were unresolved, it could drive a man mad.

“You have never been to London?” He raised an eyebrow. “That surprises me Miss Curnrow, a woman of your intellect not having visited England’s most cultured and intellectual city, out capital none the less.” He smiled again buttoning his coat again, the train was quite cold but he hardly noticed it, not noticing temperature changes unless they were going up.

“Excitement at home?” Alexander raised an eyebrow, as she looked out the window her hair framed her face beautifully, her perfectly porcelain skin radiant in the gentle morning sunlight. He listened to her speak of her questionable acts of sneaking away but a hair hung over her eye; he wasn’t sure if she had noticed it. Leaning in to move it for her Alexander paused, looking down to her lips he leant further; he hesitated for a moment, unsure of what he was doing. Making brief eye contact Alexander’s lips brushed against Antonia’s, he was finally glad of her company to London, sure there would be little repercussion at least until they returned, but that seemed an age away now. His kisses intensified, one hand gently hovered above Antonia’s waist, the other dancing along her neck to her shoulder. Drawing away from Antonia he caught eye contact. "I am most certain that you will adore London."

LIFE IS NEVER EASY FOR THOSE WHO DREAM
there is no cure for curiosity

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

Antonia looked out the window once more. ‘You know, I’ve never been to London.’ She muttered. The fact of the matter was she’d never much been out of Rochester. She had begged Oliver to take her to France for a while, but as soon as he agreed, her father disallowed it. It was as if some Godly force was stopping her from having a life outside her own home. “That surprises me Miss Curnrow, a woman of your intellect not having visited England’s most cultured and intellectual city, our capital none the less.” ‘Yes well...’ she muttered again, getting distracted by the country side that was simply flying past outside. The light was shining on her pale face; she would bronze a little, but never to the extent that she glowed like her sisters.
“Excitement at home?” his sudden outburst made her jump a little bit, before grinning devilishly. ‘Ah yes, well, my mother did not so much... how do you say... consent, to me going... and Oliver...’ she turned to him ‘you know my oldest brother, the one with the French wife,’ she turned back to look out of the window as she spoke ‘Well He didn’t approve either. It all got out of hand to the point where they locked me in my room. However they forgot to lock the window.’ She chuckled a little at her cleverness. Suddenly, she felt almost cold, and she knew he was beside her. She turned to be greeted with his hand brushing a strand of her hair delicately from her face. He leant into her; she looked down to his mouth, then up to his startling eyes. She caught her breath as they caught eye contact with each other. His lips brushed against hers, she closed her eyes, kissing him more, softly, like she needed him. His kisses intensified, suddenly, he drew away, looking into her eyes. "I am most certain that you will adore London."
Unfortunately for Antonia, William returned soon after, making snide comments about her looks and her intellect. She learned to ignore him, instead making her way to the dining carriage alone (which led to a yelp of excitement). She walked up to the bar, an air of superiority about her as she played the part of a lady on a train. ‘Excuse me, bartender. I would like a glass of your finest port if you would be so kind.’ She knew she was risking it, she was hardly old enough. The man looked her up and down. ‘May I ask how old you are?’ he raised an eyebrow. Quick Antonia, think of something. ‘How dare you! Asking a lady her age! I should, I should have you reported for foul manner! In fact, I am going back to my carriage to report you to my husband the... the duke of York!’ Zounds. Well done Antonia completely ruined it. ‘Oh err... I’m so sorry miss... I didn’t know... please, accept our finest bottle of champagne... on the house...’ she looked up, quite startled, quickly managing to pull it together however. ‘I should think so! Three glasses if you please. AND my glass of Port!’
She returned to the carriage just as they were finishing a discussion of some kind. ‘By God woman! How the hell did you manage to get that!?’ William exclaimed, looking up to the expensive bottle in her hand. ‘Sheer skill my dear.’ She said patronizingly ‘And on the house too.’ She handed a glass to each of the men before downing her port like a man. ‘Now, shall we open it?’
‘And you! Well you look like you’ve had a suitably large pole stuffed up your pompous arse for more than a century! Hahahahaha!’ Antonia had never had champagne before, and the effect on her was more than worrying. She was quite frankly, a little tipsy, but not completely over drunk. Her giggles calmed down a little. ‘Oh, oh Willy! I’m only joking darling no need to have such a grumpy face. Hehehee...’ William stood up. ‘I can’t watch her anymore.’ He said his face un-amused. He left the carriage and left Antonia and Alexander alone. ‘Alexander Alexander Alexander oohhhh! How old is this wine?’ she muttered, holding up the empty bottle to the light.

Alexander Francis Granville
The Earl of Rochester

❝ quiet● intelligent ● adventurous ● passionate ● hot - tempered❞
Alexander looked to William as he entered and Antonia left. William sat opposite Alexander with a rather knowing face. “What?” Alexander sighed. “Nothing, just... have you given any more thought as to breaking the news to her?” Alexander shook his head, looking rather flustered at the question. “No, no I haven’t.” William took out a pocket watch, polishing it with his sleeve. “She will find out soon. I mean you are taking her to a house practically full to the brim of Vampires. What are you going to say to her? That your friends in London only come out at night?” Alexander rolled his eyes. “Will you stop picking holes in this? All will fall into place soon enough, you know that too well.” William crossed his arms like a small child “And how do you plan to explain Loretta to your precious Antonia?” Alexander’s eyes widened. He had forgotten about Loretta, it had been eighteen months since he had last seen her, but never the less she was still a companion of his; a vampire custom, the closest to the human custom of marriage. “Zounds. That is indeed something to be sorted, but neither the less it is something I shall overcome. Loretta will understand I have known her for a century; she has had plenty of human pets.” William erupted with laughter. “Wait until I tell Little A that she is your pet! Ohoh!” Alexander stood, his overcoat that was draped across his shoulders falling behind him. “You will do no such thing!” Sitting back down Antonia came back with alcohol.

“I say...” Alexander laughed as she set it down. Taking a glass the train ride had time to get a little more entertaining. It seemed that after a few glasses Alexander and William were completely unaffected; Antonia however seemed very much affected. Watching William leave Alexander couldn’t help but smile at Antonia’s intoxicated state. “I thought you were strong with your alcohol. It must be the bubbles...” Putting his hand against hers, Alexander took away the bottle. “You’ll drop it and cut yourself.” Placing the bottle on the table all Alexander could do was keep her out of mischief until they reached London. “I wonder what your Mother will say when you return...” She was possible the most remarkable girl he had met, having the courage to disobey her parents so, drink like no other woman he had known, it felt like fate to meet Antonia.

The train finally made its stop on the outskirts of London when the three left the platform. “Come now, William.” Who was left to carry the bags as Alexander supported Antonia to the carriage waiting for them. “Oh no, there will be no lodging house for us,” He turned his attention to the driver. “To the Elainer, if you please.” Another forty-five minute journey and they were outside of a grand hotel; Alexander had booked them in for the night before they were to see his friends, three rooms with Antonia’s in the middle. In the foyer Alexander sent a servant to carry their cases to their rooms. William looked over to Antonia before looking at Alexander I don’t think she can walk those stairs, she’ll fall and break her neck. Alexander nodded and scooped Antonia up into his arms, he was certain that she would hardly have any recollection of the train journey as it was. Setting her down in her room Alexander closed the curtains and left, he would have to sort things out in the morning for their arrangements in the coming days. But for now he was going to have to feed, he was not going to be able to take Antonia through London the next day without collapsing otherwise.

LIFE IS NEVER EASY FOR THOSE WHO DREAM
there is no cure for curiosity

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

Antonia woke up the next morning. It was true that she had no idea what became of the day before or even the rest of the train ride. What she did know what that the champagne had knocked her for six and now she was sitting (fully clothed still) in an unfamiliar bed with a splitting headache. 'Oh lord...' she muttered, looking down at herself. She staggered to her feet just to the mirror. 'Oh Lord!' Champagne was definitely not the right thing for her to drink. She stumbled around searching for her leather satchel with her one spare set of clothes in. Finding it, she got undressed and put on her clean dress. She then pinned up her hair to the best of her abilities before wondering out of her room. 'Ah Miss Curnrow. So nice to see you sober... er I mean awake!' not the best person she first wanted to see. 'For God's sake man! Will you please stop shouting. And why is it so light? Can somebody shut the curtains out here? oh Lord... Where's Alexander? I need a drink...' William chuckled to himself. 'I think that's the last thing you need young lady. Perhaps a brisk walk out in the city?' She scrunched up her forehead in confusion and pain. He wasn't speaking any quieter, if anything he was speaking louder. 'City? Where in God's name are we?' he chuckled. 'London Miss Curnrow. London.' 'Oh... well...' he chuckled again. 'Is that all you've brought to wear? How... embarrassing...' she looked down at herself again. Usual daywear for Rochester. A group of young ladies walked past, fanning themselves and giggling as William winked at them, they looked as if they were dressed ready for a ball. Suddenly her clothes seemed all the more unsuitable. 'I would buy some pretty soon If I were you... tonight we're meeting the Earl's friends. They wouldn't want you to become confused wiuth one of their servants...' she scowled at him as he walked away laughing at his own joke. 'Servants... I look perfectly fine...' she looked down at herself again, tears welling up in her eyes. 'Oh damn him. Damn and blast! If only I were as well equipped for this as my sisters...' a small tear rolled down her high cheekbones. She was in a strange city, with a hangover, and nobody with her to look after her. It was then she spotted Alexander. down the coridoor was a large set of stairs leading to the foyer, he was just descending them, dressed smartly as ever, and looking as handsome as he'd ever been. She walked to follow him, catching up with him a while after due to her state. 'Mr Granville...' she felt inferior suddenly, not worthy to call him by his real name. 'Are... are you going somewhere?' she looked up at him, her eyes glazed over, sad and still a little bit hurt by what William had said.

Alexander Francis Granville
The Earl of Rochester

❝ quiet● intelligent ● adventurous ● passionate ● hot - tempered❞

Alexander turned around, “Antonia?” he was a little perplexed as to what was wrong. “What seems to be the matter?” He looked into her eyes, seeing the fresh tears ready to bubble over. Looking back at William he scowled. “Oh pay no attention to him; I assure you he is merely jealous that I am not buying him anything new. Come now, our carriage is outside. We will pick you out many dresses here in London. You will look beautiful.” Taking Antonia by the arm and leading her to the door he smiled. “As I said, you will adore London.” Helping her into the carriage Alexander set the driver on the right course. “You will love the dressmakers here, one in particular; a friend of mine is one of those... what was the word he used? A bisexual very strange man, but all the same a brilliant dressmaker. You will enjoy his work- very modern.” Alexander kept quiet for the rest of the journey, not sure about the evening to come; he hadn’t seen some of his old friends for decades and was not sure how receptive they would be of a human. Neither the less he was certain to look after Antonia whilst they were in London, the city as unforgiving as the bipolar weather. The streets bustling with people Alexander stepped out of the carriage and helped Antonia down into the shop; it was a small, dark room full of all sorts of material. Suits and dresses hanging from every possible place, a few mirrors dotted here and there. “Ah! Samuel! How lovely it is to see you again!” A middle aged blonde man turned around, a pair of thin glasses rested on his head. “Well I’ll be! Alexander, this would be the day of all days for you to show up! What can I do you for friend?” Alexander waved his hand. “Not for me, but for a good friend of mine, Antonia.” First names were first nature. “She is need of some of the latest London dresses, and naturally you were the first man I would come to!” Samuel laughed. “Naturally, now, step over here darling, let’s measure you up! I think I have the perfect thing in mind for you...”

LIFE IS NEVER EASY FOR THOSE WHO DREAM
there is no cure for curiosity

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

Antonia walked into the shop and pretty much squeaked upon entering. The materials inside were so extravagant, the queer man inside turned upon their entering. After introductions were over with, Alexander introduced her. “Not for me, but for a good friend of mine, Antonia.” she looked at him, her eyebrows knitted together in distaste as he introduced her with her first name. She turned to the man and held out her hand for him, courtseying. 'Miss Curnrow to new aquaintances.' she smiled enchantingly. “She is need of some of the latest London dresses, and naturally you were the first man I would come to!” she smiled again, just too happy to be buying dresses. “Naturally, now, step over here darling, let’s measure you up! I think I have the perfect thing in mind for you...” she laughed as she followed the strange man into a smaller room.

Leaving the shop with various dress boxed piled in her (and Alexander's) arms, Antonia could't wipe the biggest smile from her face. She had never had dresses that beautiful before, she couldn't wait for the evening. 'Oh thankyou Alexander, I... I don't know quite what to say. You are perhaps the most generous man I have ever met... I can't wait to meet your friends. It's true what you said I do just adore London!' They made their way back to the hotel after visiting a few other shops, Antonia had insisted that she have optimum time to get ready. Her hangover had almost gone although the light was still affecting her. She had asked Samuel to send a very special dress back to her hotel room so Alexander wouldn't see it, when she reached her room, it was already waiting for her, she opened the lid and her heart burned with secret desire and exitement.

Antonia had a bath run for her where she had her hair washed for her and experienced the most extravagant things she had ever had. She sat then, looking at ehrself in the mirror, completely naked. She had an unusual figure, thin but not so much so that her bones were showing, her sisters were very much curved and round, just what men wanted. She however was in no shape for bearing children let alone mothering any of them. She sighed, counting the strokes as she brushed her drying hair. It curled delicately around her face. Her hair seemed to get darker as she aged.

She needed help being laced up, but finally it was done, she looked at herself in the mirror. Her eyes were dark with charcol, her hair was loose around her shoulders which were almost riskily uncovered by the dress. The dress itself was a deep blood red, the sleeves were tight and capped, when she turned to the back, the line was low, showing her shoulderblades. It was trimmed with black ribbon and lace, and it was something that would almost stun dead most of the people in Rochester including her mother. It was sultry and fitted her like a glove. She slipped on her black cloak and lifted the hood, not wanting to show herself until they arrived.

Antonia descended the stairs slowly to see that Alexander and William were already waiting for her. She hadn't expected to take so much time, no matter however, she was there now. She smiled in greeting at the two men, noticing that William was more than trying to stifle his laughter at her covering herself with her cloak, probably assuming that she was still ashamed from earlier. Humpf. she thought I'll show him! 'Come on boys. You'll make us late.' she walked right past them to sit inside the carriage being pulled by the most wonderful bay horses. She made a mental note to buy them.

The carriage rode up outside a large house in kensington. It was grander than she had ever seen before for a townhouse, admittedly not as grand as the manors in the country, but still impressive, and different too. Alexander rang the bell and it was almost instantly answered as if they had been sat there waiting for him. The small man inside looked a little frightened upon seeing the tree of them, he soon got over this and asked for the coats. Antonia breathed in a little, what she was wearing was bearly appropriate for the graveside let alone for meeting new people, she knew it was risque but now she was panicking inside. 'Your cloak please madam.' 'oh, Im sorry.' She lowered her hood. The fact that her hair was down was enough to shock most people, the fact that men would most porperly see a woman with her hair loose when they were either married or sick. Her hair framed her face perfectly, bouncing around her shoulders. She untied the cloak from around her neck and dropped it into the servant's hand. As soon as it was done, she knew it was the right choice. William was looking at her as he usually did, but more, as if indecent thoughts were plaguing him. She daren't look at Alexander. 'Thankyou. This way please.' Antonia stuck closely behind the two men. As they walked through the house she couldn't help but notice the extravagantly dark, gothic decor, everything seemed as if it was ageless, it was like nothing she had ever seen. There were many people, servants, maybe guests, littering the hallways. They looked at the group, most taking second glances at her. She started to feel a little uneasy. Soon they arrived at another large door, upon entering, the man announced their arrival. Timeless looking men with young woman turned to look, Other young men sat with eachother, all looking suitably dressed and expensive. They all stared at what first seemed to be their group, Antonia couldn't help but think that it wasn't just a greeting that she was getting, it was like the look men had at the butchers. Soemthing deeper and frightening behind their eyes.

Alexander Francis Granville
The Earl of Rochester

❝ quiet● intelligent ● adventurous ● passionate ● hot - tempered❞

Arriving back at the hotel Alexander left William to get ready by himself, left Antonia to tend to her own grooming and entered his own room. It was grand, everything was ornately decorated; much like many of the rooms at his manor house. Small statuettes gilded with gold leaf, pearls decorating a silver bowl of ice, chandeliers to battle the sun. Even surrounded by such extravagance Alexander couldn’t help but think about his roots when in London. A century ago and a few hundred feet along the street he could have been found in a small grocery shop, taking the stocks and counting the books, fifty years later on the streets and forty after that working his way up to where he was now. Alexander often wondered what his life would have been like if he hadn’t been bitten, if he had married his first love and ad children, been the book keeper for the rest of his life. “What a miserable existence that would have been...” He mumbled, untying his hair, taking a hold of a comb, running it through his raven hair. It would have been an insignificant life, but it was what was meant to be. He had cheated fate and it would come back for him, eventually. His musings were disturbed by the gentle knock of his chamber door. “Come in.” He called gently as in stepped a young, fresh-faced made. In her hand was a small silk bag, jasmine in colour. “Thank you.” He nodded, handing the pretty girl a few shillings in return for her service, her eyes lighting up at his generosity. “Thank you M’Lord!” Alexander smiled, her strong accent reminding him of, his own accent and home.“Off you go then, no need to make yourself trouble.” Closing the door behind her, Alexander turned back to the centre of the room and unfolded the jasmine bag. Inside was a cravat pin. A deep saphire fixed to the end. Getting dressed he fixed the pin to his black cravat. Stood in front of a full length mirror he assessed the suitability of his attire. He hadn’t seen these people in so long, perhaps they wouldn’t recognise the once shamefully broken excuse of a man, the murderous thief for his new appearance that all those around him knew. His brilliant white shirt covered by a near black waistcoat with a sapphire haze. Atop this a black coat. It was near identical to what he wore the night he had met Antonia.

It was nearly time to be leaving, he had business of sorts to be dealing with about his status as Earl. Locking his chamber, Alexander met William in the corridor and waited for Antonia, a few minutes passed, the pair getting restless. “They take longer and longer by the year.” William whined. “She will be ready in due time, you probably made her terribly conscious of her appearance!” William rolled his eyes. “I was merely playing with her; Antonia is made of tougher stuff.” Alexander shrugged. “People are not always as strong hearted as they seem.” A few moments more of silence and Antonia’s door opened, only to see her cloaked. Alexander didn’t question it; instead he led her towards the carriage happily, building himself up towards the early climax of his London trip. Pulling up outside of the large townhouse he smiled, as if the sight of the front door was bringing back fond memories. “Well there is no sense in waiting outside.” Leading the way to the door he rang the bell and stepped back, it being answered within seconds. “Good evening.” Alexander nodded, entering the large hallway.”May I take your coats?” Alexander let his slip from his shoulders, passing it to the young gentleman. He didn’t think to look at Antonia before seeing the face of the young butler, looking to his side Alexander had to look twice, completely dumbstruck. For the first time in a long time, Alexander almost felt a flutter in his aged heart. As they were lead into the main reception room Alexander sought out particular faces and was quick to find them, a group of men sat around a small table. “Evening gentlemen.” A first none of them paid attention but as one looked up with great surprise so did the rest. “Well I’ll be, it’s the earl of Rochester himself!” Alexander looked a little smug, in his element. “What a fine evening for a reunion, wouldn’t you say?” Having three other chairs brought over for the group they sat. Those not speaking directly to Alexander had a passive eye on Antonia. One man in particular however brought her to main attention. “Alexander, tell me... who is your new friend, I am sure I have not met her before...” The mousy haired man turned to face her. “This is my good friend An-.. Miss Curnrow, of Rochester.” The man nodded, taking Antonia’s hand kissing the top. “It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance my dear, please, do make yourself as comfortable as possible...” Alexander was uneasy of the signals the man was giving off, but it was fault for bringing a human in to the grasps of tens of vampires.

Alexander turned the attention back to himself, returning to the topic of his travels and business, quickly glancing to William briefly; Take Antonia away for a while, I need to speak freely, but for goodness sake keep a hold of her, keep her safe or it’s more than your life’s worth. It was clear that William had gotten the message. Standing up he stretched his fingers. “I need to get some air, stretch my legs; being sat down on our travels has left me stiff. Care to join me?” He directed the question at Antonia though left little room for opinion. Taking her by the arm William guided her off towards the hallway. For once he seemed to follow what Alexander said properly, not letting go of her. “ How are you finding London so far? I’m sure her will take you to all the old and dull parts of town....the opera, the art houses, parliament... trust me, it isn’t worth it. Get him to take you to oxford street.” William kept his eyes sharp, some of the vampires present were in obvious need to feed. Sat with all f his old friends Alexander felt as if he had been sent back fifty years, exchanging stories, reminiscing. When a beautiful figure caught his eye. In the doorway stood his companion, standing at 5’11, skin as flawless as polished porcelain, her fiery auburn hair draped elegantly over one shoulder, her eyes the iciest of blues. “Loretta.” He stood, in awe.

LIFE IS NEVER EASY FOR THOSE WHO DREAM
there is no cure for curiosity

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

Antonia wasn’t sure if she liked how they were looking at her. It was almost like they were... hungry... “Alexander, tell me... who is your new friend, I am sure I have not met her before...” Antonia turned to look at the man, he talked like he was much older than he was, although, it must have been hard, having friends that looked so ancient. She smiled at him; he had a certain charm, one that must have fallen him favor with many women. He reminded her a little of Josiah when he was out for an evening. “This is my good friend An-.. Miss Curnrow of Rochester.” Alexander introduced her, almost reluctantly, she smiled again, resiliently, as if she had something to prove by his reluctance, offering her hand, the young man kissed it charmingly. “It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance my dear,” he said, “please, do make yourself as comfortable as possible...” she smiled again his hand still grasping hers, they were far more forward than country folk. ‘Yes, I’m sure I will.’ She pulled her hand away delicately. At that point William turned to her after a quick exchange in glance to Alexander, who hadn’t even seemed to notice the effort in dress she had made. “I need to get some air, stretch my legs; being sat down on our travels has left me stiff. Care to join me?” She sighed, protesting wouldn’t do any good. Nodding, she joined him walking back through the house. At least he appreciated her.
“ How are you finding London so far? I’m sure he will take you to all the old and dull parts of town....the opera, the art houses, parliament... trust me, it isn’t worth it. Get him to take you to Oxford Street.” He was rambling, she’d never known him to ramble, he was always so careful and precise in his lexis before. He seemed... tense, like something was about to jump out and grab him. She stopped in front of a rather ornate grandfather clock. ‘William. If you’ve got something useful to say it, then do. You’re wasting my time.’ He paused a little as she looked at him. ‘God man whatever is the matter!?’ ‘Uh... nothing! Nothing is the matter my dear. By the way you are looking... ravishing tonight...’ she smiled a little, before stopping herself. ‘Alright, now I know that something is wrong. William! If you both want me to go back to the hotel then I can take the carriage, I don’t want to be somewhere where I’m not wanted!’ She turned to leave, but his hand clasped around her bare arm ‘No! I mean... no, please Antonia... I have no problem with you being here, I find you quite entertaining in fact...’ she rolled her eyes and turned to leave again ‘IT’S JUST... It’s just that... well I was hoping he would tell you himself but...’ Antonia paused. ‘What is it?’ He sighed, letting go of her arm to rub at his temples. ‘Alexander has... there’s a woman, an old flame shall we say... Loretta her name is... I didn’t want to tell you myself but... she’s here... tonight...’ Antonia eyed him suspiciously, there was something that was making her trust him, but why should she? He hadn’t given her reason to do so before. ‘You’re just trying to frustrate me.’ ‘No please Antonia, listen to me...’ he sighed. ‘Fine, we can go back if you wish, but I warned you.’ Antonia wrenched her arm away from him and turned to go back from where they came.
Antonia stood at the end of the corridor, watching the other woman, she was... strange. She was not as thin as her; she had curves, but was still, nevertheless, quite thin. Her cheekbones were strong, making her look threatening. Her hair was flame-red, it didn’t look quite natural, yet Antonia had a suspicion that it was. She was tall too, quite tall, very useful for reaching things, but not for dancing or for anything else much feminine like that. Perhaps gardening. Still, despite all these qualities, Antonia despised her. She was beautifully intimidating, and the way that he looked at her...
She had two choices, she could walk away now, get back in the carriage and go back to the hotel like a little baby, or she could go in there, and pretend like nothing was going on inside her small head. Antonia turned rather quickly, hoping that nobody had seen her. ‘Miss Curnrow?’ Blast. She turned back around to see the young man that Alexander had introduced her to earlier smiling. ‘Ah! Good, I’m afraid I may have gotten a little lost.’ The room chuckled a little, she walked up to the doorway, the young woman was still standing there. ‘Oh, so sorry, I’m afraid I didn’t see you there... why... you must be Loretta. How... wonderful to meet you.’ Antonia hadn’t planned on being so brave so... arrogant, but there she was, standing face to face with possibly the scariest woman she had ever seen, greeting her as if she wasn’t a threat. Antonia’s cold glare could be seen by the people around her; she had a stony face and looked at the woman as if she were below her. ‘Charmed I’m sure. Miss Currow was it?’ Antonia laughed a little. ‘Curnrow. It is an easy mistake to make, do not trouble yourself with it.’ William had caught up with her a while back, and was looking perhaps even a little more terrified, if that was possible. She was glad that herself wasn’t the only person that she was frightening. She walked back into the room, an air of grace, sophistication. ‘Wine? Thank you. She was handed a glass by one of the maids that was carrying an almost empty tray, she scuttled out rather quickly. Antonia moved herself over to the young man she’d met earlier, small conversations springing up amongst various people. ‘I’m so terribly sorry, I did not quite catch you name earlier...’ the man smiled. ‘That’s because I have not given it, Lord Dorian Lauwrathy. May I say Miss Curnrow, how enchanting you look this evening?’ She smiled courtly. ‘Why thank you your Lordship, Mr. Granville bought me a few things before this afternoon. I’m afraid I had to leave in a hurry and did not set enough time to pack.’ He looked sympathetic, she perched herself on the arm of his chair and took a sip of the red wine. ‘How unfortunate, but please, call me Dorian.’

Alexander Francis Granville
The Earl of Rochester

❝ quiet● intelligent ● adventurous ● passionate ● hot - tempered❞

Before Alexander could get in another word, or Loretta to him Antonia had returned without William. William looking to Alexander I tried to take her with me, but she wasn’t having any of it, my appologies. Alexander couldn’t do anything for the minute, with Antonia in the room Loretta caught the hint and turned around, heading for the courtyard outside. Even as she walked away Alexander found himself hypnotised by her. Though the topic of more ‘human-friendly’ business came back to the table, the others catching up on business proposals whilst he sat, itching to go after Loretta, even to simply greet her properly. Some of the others caught hint of this and laughed. “Surely Lord Granville, you have better things to do than sit with businessmen the entire evening? There must be acquaintances to make, old friends to re-introduce yourself to? You’re not going to be in London for long.” Alexander took it as a better time than any to pardon himself from the group and make his way into the corridor. He was sure that Loretta would be in the courtyard, which was where he had met her all those years ago. Looking back briefly, he saw Antonia with Lauwrathy, Alexander had only met him once before so was unsure what to make of him; unsure if he was safe to be around a human. But he was going to take his chances with William nearby.

Sliding in between others, shaking their hands, smiling and assuring them he would be back to talk Alexander felt the cool London air wash over him. There were a few people outside but only one caught his attention. “Good evening.” Alexander extended his hand to help Loretta to standing. There was a silence at first, that seemed to be un fallible until Loretta spoke. “You have yourself a pretty pet there.” Her voice was silken, almost as if she were singing; one of the many things Alexander couldn’t resist about her. “I didn’t expect you to be here Loretta, it... it has been a long time.” She looked up to the sky, a few stars glimmering. “I told you that we would meet again, under the same stars.” She paused, as if deep in thought. “I was only told recently that you are now an Earl.” Alexander turned away. “Many things have changed my darling. You see, when you told me that you were travelling to the new world, I didn’t expect to see you again.” Loretta came up behind Alexander, placing a delicate hand on his shoulder. “I know you didn’t, I don’t blame you for moving on, this was always how we had planned.” Turning to face Loretta again Alexander looked pained. “But it wasn’t, was it?” Loretta’s pale blue eyes looked towards the floor. “It was an impossibility Alex.” “You were always the only person to call me Alex.” Loretta smiled softly that smile, heavenly. Alexander looked back towards the house. “ It isn’t safe for her to be here.” Loretta shook her head. “There are young bloods here, ravenous and not yet tamed.” Alexander took Loretta’s hand. “You used to call me a young blood.” Loretta took Alexander’s hand closer to her face, examining it; noticing a thin, almost unnoticeable layer of blood under his fingernails. “Yet you are still not tame.” Alexander stepped into Loretta. “There is little I can do now.” Loretta smiled again. “Return to her, we shall see each other again soon. My companion.” Alexander echoed the sentiment “My companion.” Kissing Loretta’s hand, Alexander let her go and returned into the house. At first he sought out Antonia in the main reception room, not sure as to where William had wandered off too.

LIFE IS NEVER EASY FOR THOSE WHO DREAM
there is no cure for curiosity

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

Antonia watched him, glancing over to the door every few minutes. ‘And what are your interests Miss Antonia?’ she turned around to Dorian. ‘Hmm? Oh well there is... did I... I mean I do not remember telling you my name...?’ something flashed across his eyes, so quickly she almost didn’t recognize it. He smiled ‘Yes you did... just a moment ago.’ He laughed ‘Mr. Granville seems to be... distracting you. Perhaps it’s his dazzling beauty? Am I not pretty enough for you Miss Antonia?’ she laughed as he stuck his bottom lip out and looked at her like an injured puppy. He laughed loudly, breaking the face and turning to look across the room he said “Surely Lord Granville, you have better things to do than sit with businessmen the entire evening? There must be acquaintances to make, old friends to re-introduce yourself to? You’re not going to be in London for long.” Alexander then promptly stood up and left. ‘There now see...’ Dorian cooed, bringing a hand up to her face and brushing a stray curl out of the way. ‘No more nasty distractions.’
The night went on, William popping in the room every so often as if he were almost checking up on her. Antonia was having a whale of a time, drinking then laughing, then drinking some more. It was true that Dorian was simply charming; she was sat on his lap, a little merrier than when she had arrived, he kissed her neck and she giggled at the sentiment. She had always known that city men were far more forward than those of the country, for example she couldn’t see Henry ever with a woman on his lap, kissing her neck, even his wife! Even though she was enjoying herself she still couldn’t help but think about Alexander, how he’d just completely forgotten about her and gone after that... that... courtesan! ‘So, horse riding. I used to do a little riding myself.’ She smiled ‘Reeeealy? It’s hard to imagine you on a horse!’ she laughed and he sat a little straighter, amused smile on his face. ‘Uh huh? And you being able to play the piano isn’t a complete mystery?!’ he laughed as she mockingly hit him across the chest. William came in just as Dorian nuzzled his head flirtingly into the nape of Antonia’s neck, kissing it gently. She laughed a little. William seemed to freeze, like he was talking to someone but his mouth wasn’t moving. He looked like he was about to do something drastic, but was holding back. ‘Miss Curnrow!’ he called suddenly, smiling like nothing had happened. ‘Take a walk with me!’ she sighed exasperatingly, beknownst to her, the young man she was perching on glared at William with such intensity, like a murderer stares at its victim. ‘William. William, William, William... You are so touchy, on edge. I’m not going anywhere with you.’

Alexander Francis Granville
The Earl of Rochester

❝ quiet● intelligent ● adventurous ● passionate ● hot - tempered❞

Alexander saw William in the corridor looking a little hasty, even calling over Antonia to him. Alexander soon realised that something was wrong, he quickened hit pace towards the doorway of the room. William seemed to be warding Alexander away but he was going to have none of it. William turned away with a sigh. “We cannot have it all Alexander.” As he turned the corner Alexander froze in his tracks to see Antonia on Dorian’s lap, giggling and drunk. He couldn’t believe it; he had just broken away from his first love, staying faithful to Antonia whom he had brought along and spoilt her rotten. He stood in the doorway, the look on Dorian’s face enough to make him snap. Alexander stormed into the room, his loose hair rippling behind his stride. “Get up.” He stopped in front of Antonia. “Get up now.” Her resistance angering Alexander more. “You will stand, now. Or so help me.” William had returned and was stood in the doorway, now Alexander was present he had no need for concern as to Antonia’s wellbeing, but when Alexander got angry he was difficult to console; which meant entertainment for him. They were amongst friends so Alexander’s behaviour went unnoticed, but for him the experience was mortifying. “Fine.” Without another word Alexander’s hand shot out at an inhumanly speed and grabbed Antonia’s wrist with great force, ripping her from the Lord’s lap and into his chest. Dragging her out of the reception room and up the stairs, Alexander lead Antonia into one of the small studies that was empty. Slamming the door behind him.

William floated into the reception room with a smug look on his face, inviting a female to sit with him as he approached Lord Dorian. “I haven’t seen Alexander react like that in over a decade. Quite the spectacle when you are in his company for so long. Did try to teach him once to find peace in knowing humans as commodities... but...” William sighed, “I fear Alexander has all the power of a vampire with all the emotions of a human; truly beautiful.” He laughed, drinking from a glass that appeared to have a red wine, though it didn’t seem to flow as quick.

Alexander was enraged, he had been humiliated in front of old friends, companions and business associates. White knuckled, Alexander slammed a fist on the nearby mahogany desk. “You fool! You utter incompetent fool!” Alexander stormed towards Antonia grabbing her by the shoulder to keep her in the room. “Did you think it was funny to anger me so? Did it amuse you to infuriate me so?” He leant into her, a slight twang of his mother accent- cockney, warming through. “Well you have angered me! You have humiliated me in front of so many old friends I cannot care to count in front of you! You acted like a harlot, a whore! And for what? Out of jealousy?” With the grip on Antonia’s shoulder tightening he threw her to the floor. “Well enjoy my jealousy.” He turned away, breathing heavily as to soothe his angered soul. Leaving the room, he couldn’t look back to Antonia; fearing he had hurt her, something he would not forgive himself for doing. Quickly walking down the stairs Alexander looked to William in the reception room. “Go find Antonia, I must walk this off.” Fetching his coat, Alexander left the tall white townhouse in attempt to ease his mind.

LIFE IS NEVER EASY FOR THOSE WHO DREAM
there is no cure for curiosity

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

It was then Alexander came, waltzed into the room like nothing was going on, quietly and well mannered, he walked up to the pair.“Get up.” she simply looked at him for a second, before turning away to look back at Dorian. She was so completely outraged by his behavior that he didn’t even want to talk to him. “Get up now.” she snapped, what right did he have to be angry? ‘I shan’t!’ apparently, he snapped too. “You will stand, now. Or so help me.” she stood ‘Or what Alexander!?’ she stared him down as she lowered herself back onto Dorian’s lap. Dorian seemed to be enjoying the whole experience terribly well. ‘Be gone...’ The whole room was silent for a moment, like she had said something out of the ordinary. In her mind she was being harassed. Yes he was an Earl, but she was only a little lower than him in status. “Fine.” without so much as another comment, he grabbed at her arm, wrenching her away from her new acquaintance and dragging her away from the room. ‘LET GO OF ME!’ she shouted, he ignored her, coldly pulling her away, up a flight of stairs and throwing her mercilessly into a room on the second floor. It was quiet, she was stunned, he looked so angry, murderous even, raising slowly to her feet, she jumped as he shouted. “You fool! You utter incompetent fool!” her eyes flickered towards the door, but before she could react upon it, he was already there, clasping her shoulder with a vice like grip she let out a small whimper from the pain he was causing. . “Did you think it was funny to anger me so? Did it amuse you to infuriate me so?” he leant into her as the tears began rolling down her face, not because she was sad, not because she was hurting, but because she was frightened, frightened of what he might do to her. “Well you have angered me! You have humiliated me in front of so many old friends I cannot care to count in front of you! You acted like a harlot, a whore! And for what? Out of jealousy?” his grip tightened and she let out a small yelp like a injured dog before being thrown to the cold hard floorboards. “Well enjoy my jealousy.” the words were spat with such hatred, and she was left with the echoing of them in her mind as the door slammed in her face. She shook, trembling from the whole experience. Her shoulder seared with pain, the bruises already appearing on her bare skin. She raised slowly to her feet, she had to get out of there, get away from there before he could even look back. She couldn’t understand, couldn’t comprehend why he had been so angered by his actions it was him after all that had left after another woman, right in front of her face, left her in a room full of queer strangers, no-one but William who only would’ve taunted her.
She didn’t understand who she came about stealing a horse, but the next thing she knew, she was riding a beautiful cherry bay horse through the streets of London, her cloak draped around her and flowing behind her in the wind. The tears kept on coming, but worse than that was the brutal cough that she had not recovered from. The horse slowed to a trot as she reached for a handkerchief, coving her mouth as her throat burned with great painful coughs. She found herself in Hyde Park (not that she knew what it was called) and was glad to be alone amongst familiar things such as grass and trees. She dismounted, holding the horse’s bridle in hand and walking along with it down the stretch of gravel path lined on both sides with trees. She whimpered with tears still, the noise like a wounded animal, suddenly, a noise from behind her, she turned, a little too slowly, as the horse bolted from her and she was left all alone, standing face to face with Loretta. ‘Hello little one.’ She breathed, her voice chilling Antonia to her very core. ‘I heard you have been causing some trouble recently hmm?’ she lifted a gloved hand, stroking the side of the other woman’s face. Antonia jumped, at her touch and the woman laughed. She couldn’t bring herself to look at her face, something deep inside of her was telling her not to. ‘Why won’t you look at me little one? You look frightened. What’s the matter?’ the last sentence came as a hiss. Instincts finally kicked in, without warning she struck her, hit her across the face, turned and ran. As she ran, she whistled. If the horse was any trained it would come to her. Sure enough, the horse came galloping down the path. She heard an outraged cry from somewhere behind her, she was being followed, and very quickly. With great skill, Antonia grabbed the saddle as the horse galloped past her, pulling herself up onto the beast and riding past the woman who was on her pursuit.
They had finally lost her. She daren’t look back, but she knew the danger was gone. Something told her deep inside that that woman was more than evil; she put that feeling to one side, now realizing that she was completely lost. Suddenly a voice from the side of her. ‘s’cuse me m’aam...’ she looked down to see a young boy, filthy, and ultimately poor. ‘Got any spare change?’ as she looked down at him, she began to cry. ‘Beggin’ your pardon miss didn’t mean to make you cry... Please miss I’m sorry...’ she smiled, wiping the tears away with her hand. ‘Listen.’ She said quietly and kindly ‘Do you know where The Elainer Hotel is?’ he grinned broadly. ‘Do I ever miss? That place is ‘uge!’ she smiled back ‘Well then, let’s be going.’
On the way she found out about the boy being an orphan, she took such pity on him that she ended up taking him into her room, cleaning him up and sending for some new clothes for him. He must have been only about five.
The small boy sat on her bed, she began to undress into her slip, ready for bed. ‘If you don’t mind me sayin’ miss... why’d you care so much? I mean, I’m only an urchin.’ She laughed a little, now sat, undressed, brushing through her hair. ‘Maybe we’re all urchins.’
Through the next hour, she agreed to send the boy back to her own home, he could work with Henry and his father on her farm. She wanted to buy the workers from Alexander but thought it best just to send the boy back on the train with a letter. She gave him money for a ticket, and paid a servant maid to take him to the station immediately to catch the late train. There she was, once again all alone.
She tried not to dwell on what Alexander had said, and especially not on Loretta. Even though she tried however, she couldn’t help but crying. She lay on her bed, her pale legs almost nearly all bare with the scandalously short length of the slip, face down into the sheets sobbing, her dirty-blonde hair in a long plait over her shoulder. Her other shoulder had bruised considerably.

Alexander Francis Granville
The Earl of Rochester

❝ quiet● intelligent ● adventurous ● passionate ● hot - tempered❞

The cool air did nothing to clear Alexander’s mind. He had become so enraged so quickly, it had startled him. Alexander had always had a fiery streak about him, always one to start a bet or a fight as a human after a day’s work, but he had been able to control it so well until now. He regretted leaving Antonia there with William but was sure that he couldn’t be so callous as to leave her how he had. He sighed heavily into the wind wondering what made him snap, it felt like jealousy but Alexander had his doubts, he had just seen his first love, the one woman who would have control over is heart for the rest of his life. But the very thought of seeing Antonia enjoying herself with another man made Alexander’s fists tighten. He didn’t understand it, if it was possible for him to have such strong feelings for a human. It didn’t seem right any more, the mortals were only there for scenery and consumption; or so William had tried to teach him. But as Alexander paced the streets of London he wondered if there was something more to this.
It was becoming exceedingly late when Alexander made his way through Hyde Park to bet back to the hotel, ahead however was Loretta, about a hundred yards in front of him. Quickening pace Alexander called “Loretta, hello.” As she turned around the third time to face him she still had the ability to stop Alexander in his tracks. She explained a little flustered what had happened with Antonia passing, though it was obvious that it had angered Loretta, Alexander couldn’t help but smile; it was Antonia’s style through and through. Though amidst the admiration of Antonia’s bravery, he couldn’t help but wonder how she was, realising the dangers of the London streets this late for a young country girl. With this thought Alexander sped off, running through Hyde Park towards the Elainer hotel. Alexander took the stairs quickly and reaching where their rooms were aligned he walked ever so slowly, listening intently outside of Antonia’s room, he could hear her faint sobs, his heart pained with the sound. Entering his own room Alexander removed his coat, waistcoat and cravat; his shirt loose over his trousers. Alexander spent half an hour pacing, wondering what to do. Whether he should leave her be for the evening or do something, but what?

He couldn’t take listening to her pain any longer, it was heart breaking. He felt no need to re dress himself in the waistcoat, instead with his cotton shirt loose, Alexander stood outside of Antonia’s room, opening the door nearly silently. Walking in without a word, he saw her there, head in the pillow, her shoulder looking sore, he caused that. He sat on the bed, grabbing her attention, but he didn’t allow Antonia to speak. “Shh.” He whispered, sat there, not even looking at her, he couldn’t bring his eyes to hers. After a while he moved, to lie beside her, on his side Alexander’s chest was against her back, his raven hair entwined around her golden plait. Her warmth and closeness was consoling to him though he had yet said anything to her of significance. With closed eyes Alexander whispered “Antonia, you... are my everything. You are all that matters to me in this life and the next... please forgive me, I acted out of jealousy and rage...but all I meant was love.” He paused, his cool hand hovering above her bruised shoulder. Alexander wanted to remove her pain, help heal the wound, but it was large and deep, he had done damage. He would wait for her to sleep before doing so. “I love you Antonia...please, please forgive my... passion.”

LIFE IS NEVER EASY FOR THOSE WHO DREAM

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

She hadn’t heard him come in, but when he sat down on the bed next to her, she jumped out of fright, thinking it might be her. Something inside of her calmed as she saw it was Alexander, he wouldn’t hurt her... she couldn’t trust him not to hurt her, her shoulder was crippled. He wasn’t looking at her; she paused for a moment, before turning away, lying back down again, her wayward strands of hair coming loose from the plat. Her breath was a little jumpy still from crying, and she sniffed a lot, trying to stifle the sobs. The bed creaked a little as he lay down with her, some of his hair fell over her shoulder, she looked at it, she’d always loved his hair. She closed her eyes, his breath so close to her. “Antonia, you... are my everything. You are all that matters to me in this life and the next... please forgive me, I acted out of jealousy and rage...but all I meant was love.” she breathed out, suddenly realizing that she was holding her breath. It wasn’t real, it couldn’t be happening, not to her, not to ugly Antonia, almost twenty and still unmarried Antonia, the only boy to love her is a stable boy Antonia. She caught her breath again. “I love you Antonia...please, please forgive my... passion.” Antonia turned to him, her eyes still bleary. ‘But... Loretta...’ she paused. ‘I thought she was going to kill me... charlatan... that showed her.’ her light hearted outburst seemed to spark something in her. She had never felt more like herself than when she was with him. She looked up to him, the laughter gone from her eyes, instead fear, and anticipation. ‘I do not want you to leave me.’ She said, so quietly. ‘Alexander...’ she raised a hand, putting it gently on his cold face. ‘I love you too.’ She didn’t know if it was the wine, or him that made her so brave that night, but there she was, reaching up to kiss him, in her room, in her bed, and she didn’t feel one ounce of guilt.

Alexander nodded; there was certain intensity in her voice that he couldn’t ignore. He stood looking of the window beside them at first, listening to her play. It was a melody he had never heard before, but if some way he recognised it; as if it had been played to him a thousand times before. He stood their motionless, listening to the passion and energy that radiated from her fingertips into the piano. He could have stood there until sunrise but as her piece slowed to its end he turned to face Antonia. “Why did you come tonight Antonia? You are making yourself worse by being here.” He kept what he meant by this ambiguous but her condition would definitely worsen from being out in the rain. The noise of the rain against the thin glass was overwhelming, Alexander didn’t care to think about the consequence of her being here with regards to her family, all he could think of was that she was here now, and how he wanted to replicate the night in the London hotel, just to lay there in the dark and hold her, love and protect her. But there was that horrible feeling eating at him, there was always that feeling of guilt and uncertainty. He was a monster, like a wolf leading a lamb astray. He couldn’t imagine hurting Antonia but at the same time knew it was inevitable, whether he left without her or in turn watched her die, pain was always around the corner. These feelings only made Alexander want to keep Antonia closer, he wanted to hold her and not let her go, that was the only way to keep her. Even in death he would still hold her.

“You shouldn’t have come.” A flash of lighting broke out, illuminating them both. He didn’t let her speak, rather he stood before her and held Antonia against him, he could feel her breathing. “You shouldn’t.” The sky was illuminated several times over. “You are my...” He couldn’t bring himself to call her his everything. To do so was to admit his defeat; she would be his only weakness from that evening on. He parted from her for a moment and walked away from the piano and sat on a small two seated chair. He invited Antonia to sit by him and as she did he caressed the side of her face, he her hair was still damp, he brushed it to one side. (and wound a tress three times around her neck...)

“Antonia...” Alexander said quietly, he still sounded tense. “You, you need to know,” He leant in closer. “That I am not like most other men, in ways you would not care to understand, but if you ever arrive here and I am gone. Please, wait for me, as I’ll be waiting for you.” He took her cool hand in his and gently kissed her. “Just wait.” He echoed, a clap of thunder rolling above the manor. He looked into her eyes, where they were previously consumed with affection there was now something more, he looked down to the necklace as if to touch it but restrained. “I love you Antonia, I love you.” He kissed her again but the hold of her hand was tighter, his kiss more passionate. He wasn’t himself tonight.

LIFE IS NEVER EASY FOR THOSE WHO DREAM
there is no cure for curiosity

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

Antonia woke, not remembering if the perivious night was real or merely an illusion. Rolling over, her hair loose about her shoulders. Her eyes soon became accustomed to the light and there, stood by the door, was the man she spent the night with. 'Alex...?' she called softly, her voice still a little rough from the night's sleep. Her complection contrasted that of her cotton slip that was just gracing her mid-thigh. She didn't lok anything like her sisters, but she was the spitting image of her brothers.

'Gad Zukes!' Mrs Curnrow gasped at her son's outburst. 'Oliver! Language!' The oldest son turned 'Mother, your oldest daughter is out on the streets on London with some shady ELIGABLE earl and now she's mocking us by sending us street urchins and all you can worry about is my God damn language!? Dear Lord!' The woman kept quiet. 'If it 'elps mister, your miss Tonia's ell of a nice.' Oliver turned lightning fast, striking the child across the face. From the door, came an outraged shout of his name, he turned, only to see his heavily pregnant wife, the woman who had never raised her voice in her entire life. 'Come here boy.' she motioned toward the urchin, who ran into her arms. 'Now, Oliver I know this may be painful for you but this boy, he has done nothing. You must learn to control your temper before our child comes along or I shall remove you from the child's presence.' he stayed silent, gritting his teeth. 'Now it is simple what you should do. This child was sent from her no? Then you can send the child back with someone to retrieve her.' Oliver rolled his eyes. 'And whom... Genevive... should you have me send?' his wife smiled kindly. 'Someone who she trusts. A man of course, a man whom knows his way around the London streets yet can still carry himself about like a proper gentleman. A man whom at the mere mention of this incident will anger to the point that he'd rather kill the man who took her than let him go.' silence for a moment. 'Josiah.'

Antonia descended the stairs after dressing and washing. She entered the foyer where Alexander and William were already waiting for them. 'Alex... may I ask if you could take me to a jewlers today? I feel I am lacking diamonds... my mother never buy's me them, only my sisters, she says they won't do anything for me as they can oly enhance beauty...' she pursed her lips in defiance. 'But Zounds and blast to her. I can do whatever I like. And then, you must show me a good place to buy wine!'

Alexander Francis Granville
The Earl of Rochester

❝ quiet● intelligent ● adventurous ● passionate ● hot - tempered❞

Alexander had dressed himself in some of his finer attire; supposed to be meeting with more established friends again, he had hoped to miss her that morning; worrying about taking her into a room full of vampires again, especially as Lord Dorian was sure to be there too. But as he heard his name called, Alexander could hardly refuse her. William watched by Alexander’s side with disgust as Alexander’s behaviours. “You are aware that your dear friend has been waiting to see you for a number of years?” It wasn’t so much that William was desperate to sit in a darkened room of men, discussing plans and so on- it was that in all the time William had known Alexander as a vampire he had always put his ‘love’ first. But William said no more and shrugged; deciding that he would go along anyways. He needed to scout out the nearest brothel to terrorise in the evening anyway.
Alexander nodded to Antonia. “Of course, out carriage waits outside, I’m sure we will find something fitting for you.” Taking her by the arm Alexander still swore that he had never met a young woman quite like Antonia. He decided to take them to a more upmarket part of London’s shopping district; though some of the jewellery in other places had charm and quirk, Alexander only wanted to give the finest of things to Antonia, to treat her how she deserved to be. William sent the carriage away as they walked along the street. Neither Alexander or William had fed since arriving in London and this time it was William who was feeling the strains of his ‘condition’ he had with him an opaque black umbrella that he had up without their being even the faintest break in the cloud for bright sunlight to pass. Alexander knew what was going on and ignored his actions; they only reminded him that he was going to have to feed soon, which meant leaving Antonia at some point, which in itself was going to be difficult.

As a jewellers caught all of their eyes Alexander lead Antonia in. “Look at all of the necklaces- anything you like in fact. Remember there are others nearby also.” Though he planned to buy anything that she touched. He spent the majority of the day going through various jewellers buying un believably priced items. But Alexander didn’t bat an eye at the costs; all he wanted to see was the happiness on Antonia’s face. As the clocks turned towards late afternoon most of the shops began to close and Antonia led her back to the carriage, William walking ahead, now deeming the weather dull enough for him to survive. Sat in the carriage William rolled his eyes. “This will simply not do. I refuse to return to the hotel now. We are not bleak minded people, we are aristocracy in London! There is so much to experience and you want to sit here as if we are in the countryside?!” William shook his head violently. “No this will not do at all; we will visit the royal theatre tonight.” Alexander had no objections so was happy to go to the theatre. It was nice to watch other people’s lives unfold on the stage; it was the end of the season, or near enough. There would be no new actresses to announce to the stage but it would be a pleasant change all the same.

Alexander didn’t care too much for the actual performance, sat in the box with his two friends he was more focused on Antonia that what was going on below them. But the show wasn’t long; by the early evening they were just leaving the theatre. His carriage was merely a few feet around the corner but as Alexander was about to cross over, a young man in a uniform took his eye. “Say, Antonia do you recognise that man? Over there the one in the uniform...Yes that is who it is, Josiah...no wait! I wouldn’t call him over!” But it was too late Josiah had turned around and was looking straight at Alexander, he didn’t move, this was not the place to cause a fuss. But by the look on Josiah’s face he didn’t care. Before Alexander could move however Josiah had punched Alexander straight in the face, cutting his lip. “Oh.” Alexander sighed, turning back to face Josiah. William was stood a bit of the way back with his umbrella up again. “Oh good show! Good show! Again again!”

LIFE IS NEVER EASY FOR THOSE WHO DREAM
there is no cure for curiosity

{{ANTONIA ANNE CURNROW}}

William seemed overly irritable throughout the day, but Antonia put this down to him being himself, as he was usually either irate or rude. She however was having a wonderful time, traipsing around the capital in and out of various jewelry shops. She had her own money; of course she brought some with her, but not enough for even one diamond in the high priced stores. Alexander however seemed adamant on purchasing anything she mentioned she liked the look of, she would soon look like she was made of precious stones. One particular shop caught her eye, it was down a small alleyway off the high street, it looked especially sinister and she had the feeling that Alexander didn’t particularly want to be down there with her, but she had insisted, dragging him into the tiny antiques shop on the corner, or what she had thought to be an antiques shop. Inside intrigued her, the things laid out were so exotic; shrunken heads and glass balls; small vials and bottles of brightly coloured liquids; all measures of thick and brightly patterned fabrics; tiny wooden carvings of magical creatures and candles of every kind, but what instantly caught her eye, was a blood-red, ruby and diamond necklace.

The necklace hung from a rusted nail poking dangerously out from the wooden wall. She walked over to it, as if drawn by it, and pulled her hand out to grasp it. She turned around to Alexander and William, only to notice that William was stood outside, refusing to go into the shop, Alexander looked uncomfortable with her being in there, and he was doing that thing, when he was looking at William but it was more than a stare, like they were almost talking to each other. ‘Beautiful. Isn’t it.’ The voice made her jump; she turned to see an ancient looking African woman with a necklace made from small bones strung about her neck. She was smiling warmly, but there was still something wrong about it. ‘Y…yes…’ Antonia turned back to look at the jewel. ‘Yes it is.’ The woman unhooked it from the nail and held it out in front of Antonia. ‘It was said in ancient times that Ruby’s attracted spirits of the dead, that they hungered for any woman that was wearing them.’ Antonia felt like laughing at the ridiculous proposition, but she couldn’t, somehow the woman sounded deadly serious. ‘However, it is also a protector, they cannot kill you as long as you are wearing it.’ the woman’s gaze flickered from Antonia to the man behind her. ‘You ought to be cautious young woman. These are dangerous times.’ Antonia did laugh this time. ‘My Father tells me this all the time. How much for the necklace?’ The woman hesitated, moving her hand in a cross about her face with the necklace. ‘For you my dear, I fear it is too late but… it is yours. The price you will pay in the end will be far grater than any you could give me…’ Antonia didn’t know quite what to make of it, the woman placed the necklace around her neck, and the next thing she knew, she was back on the high street, with no recollection of the shop whatsoever.

The rest of the day played out quite happily for her, and she was absolutely ecstatic when she found out that they were taking her to the Theatre. She sat there, in a box, with wondering awe at how beautiful it was; the costume the scenery the plotline, even the theatre itself. She was almost sad when it ended, but, the night was getting long. The air was cold outside; she grasped the pendant around her neck which seemed to be emanating warmth about her. It was then Alexander spoke. “Say, Antonia do you recognise that man? Over there the one in the uniform...” She turned to look at who he was indicating, only to realise it was her brother. ‘Yes! It’s Josiah! JOSIAH!’ she shouted, ignoring Alexander’s protests, but it was already too late. He walked towards them with a stone cold face, like the one he had when he was angry. ‘Josiah?’ He stormed straight past her pulling his arm back and hitting Alexander square across the face. She screamed out, going to pull him away but he simply brushed her off as he took a swing for William who was clearly enjoying the experience. ‘If I ever see you around this man again…’ he said, threat not needed as he grabbed her by the arm tightly, causing her to scream out angrily in pain, he dragged her away around a corner, dropping her up onto his horse and climbing up too, riding to the train station in silence.

All hell broke loose once she was home, shouting and screaming, from Oliver, her mother weeping in the corner, Josiah being restrained from his younger sister after having striking her several times, but she just sat there, in the hard wooden chair in the centre of the room as her family stood about her. Her father stopped the nonsensical slander, telling her how ashamed he was, and that if it leaked out that she had run off with an un-married man, that it may have disgraced the family and that she was lucky nobody found out. She was to act as normal, attending every social event she could with the lie that she had been recovering from illness. The only punishment, that she was not, ever, allowed to meet with the Earl again.

The Earl of Rochester

Once Alexander recovered from the shock of being assaulted he turned to where Antonia was she was being dragged away, out of sight and out of his life. There wasn’t anything he could do here, not right now. All he could do was watch in awe. Though William was overjoyed at the outburst of entertainment even he was a little surprised, there wasn’t much that could be done by either of them whilst they were in London, to cause a scene outside of the royal theatre would be considered a social crime. The pair slowly walked away as Antonia moved out of sight. “Well...” Alexander looked most perplexed, not upset; he wasn’t fully aware of the repercussions of her actions yet, but he didn’t know why it had all been so sudden. They had only been in London for a few days; Alexander had at least a fortnight of arrangements before he could even consider returning to Rochester, and even then he could only imagine how things were going to unfold.

It was needless to say with Antonia gone, William was far more open about his activities, and Alexander felt freer to talk to his companions without it being in code. But there was a certain emptiness with Antonia not being at his side, it was something he had grown accustom to and enjoyed. Without her there, he felt like just another Vampire wondering the cold streets of London without any real cause. Alexander soon found a way to pass his time, in London it was far easier to hunt his victims, in smaller rural areas he had to be careful and smart about his kills, but in London he could dress in pauper’s rags and run through the midnight ghettos of London, taking practically who he pleased, dragging them in an alley at will; where most would assume him to be raping the girl so not intervening he would feed freely. After days of this Alexander soon realised it didn’t have the same effect as it used to.

The weeks soon passed, the formalities beginning to bore him. A few friends promised to visit Alexander and William in Rochester soon, but for now they took the train home alone and in the dark of night were back at Alexander’s manor. It looked exactly as they had left it, if not cleaner. There was a small pile of post on the bureau in his study which he quickly rifled though to find an invite to a late summer ball the next day. Alexander was a little apprehensive about going; he had no word in the post from Antonia, only another Letter for Loretta that she had promised. Alexander was a little worried but he was sure she would be at the ball the next day. But for now Alexander was to sleep, even the shortest train journey made him tired. Passing the invite to William Alexander undressed to bed, he would prepare himself for the ball held by two people he had never met before in the morning.
